1st International workshop on Cancer Genetic & Cytogenetic Diagnostics
March 20th to March 22nd, 2013
Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, The Netherlands
The workshop will focus on all aspects concerning cancer cytogenetics. Technical aspects such as conventional karyotyping, methods and principles of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and new methods in cytogenetics such as micro-array genomic profiling, MLPA and next generation sequencing will be discussed. During the course interpretation of cytogenetic and genetic data in relation with cancer (onco-hematology and solid tumors) and predisposition to cancer will be presented. Practical exercises will be offered with the ISCN 2013 system for chromosome aberrations and with cytogenetic and genomic databases. Furthermore students will practice with data obtained by karyotyping, FISH and micro-array and translation of these data in a report. Participants will have the opportunity to present their own observations and cytogenetic findings which are difficult to interpret.
