The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is seeking a postdoc program manager to coordinate, foster and unify postgraduate education at the DKFZ. The aim of this program is to position the DKFZ as one of the international leading centers for postgraduate education in basic and translational cancer research.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day organization of postdoctoral training programs. His/her tasks will include:
· writing funding applications for postdoctoral training fellowships (international and national)
· developing marketing material and brochures
· organizing the selection procedures
· unifying existing activities in postdoctoral training at the DKFZ
· communicating with postdoctoral fellows and faculty
· continuous monitoring and improvement of postdoctoral fellow recruitment and training processes
· building and extending international networks for postgraduate education in cancer research.
The applicant should be highly motivated and efficient, should have a strong interest in postgraduate education, and must hold a PhD in biology, medicine or an equivalent degree. The position requires outstanding organizational capabilities, excellent English and German communication and writing skills as well as postdoctoral experience of at least one year. Experience in (post)graduate education or science management, including grant writing, is an advantage, as is experience working in an international environment. Applicants should also be available to travel internationally.
The German Cancer Research Center is a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers and performs research in the areas of basic and translational cancer biology. It is the largest biomedical research institute in Germany with over 2,800 employees.
The center has strong interactions with Heidelberg University and other research institutions in the Rhein-Neckar area, but also numerous national and international collaboration partners in academia, the clinic and industry. We offer an international and dynamic work environment, access to a broad range of continuing education courses and the possibility to contribute to an education program at the frontier of cancer research. The PhD and postdoc programs are amongst the largest in Europe entirely dedicated to cancer research.
The position is initially limited to 2 years with the possibility for an extension. This position can in principle also be part-time.
This position may also serve as an excellent starting point for a career in science management. Salary is according to TV-L depending on qualification and experience.
