Professor (or Associate Professor) of Transportation
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is currently seeking a Professor (or Associate Professor) of Transport Innovation who will guide significant world class research, teaching and consulting activity in innovative transportation research. From a mechanical engineering core the successful applicant will be an industry-facing thought-leader with the ability to translate from current key research areas to a coherent future vision.
The Faculty of Engineering is one of the largest in Australia, renowned worldwide for the quality and calibre of the teaching and research and the high recognition of those who graduate from the Faculty. The Faculty has world class facilities including well-equipped laboratories and many items of large infrastructure, from advanced imaging and visualisation facilities and electron microscopes, to the largest wind tunnel in the southern hemisphere.
Reporting to the Head of the Department, the successful applicant will pursue a high level of research output within their area of expertise and make contribution to the procurement of research funding for the Department. Engaging with industry will be of particular prominence in this role, especially as the Department houses the Institute of Railway Technology and the Maintenance Technology Institute both which provide access to high end industry links and avenues for future collaboration. The appointed candidate will provide academic mentoring and leadership to early and mid-career researchers within the Department to nurture and encourage them to develop their research and share in the celebration of their successes thus contributing positively to the culture of the Department. The position is a full time role and will be based at the University’s Clayton Campus.
